What is the cycle of violence that makes it difficult for a victim to escape?
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: The cycle of violence begins with tension building. In this phase minor abuse occurs, and the victim tries to please the abuser to avoid another attack. Phase two is acute battering. In this phase the abuser lashes out more forcefully no matter how accommodating the victim has been. The final phase is remorse. During this phase the abuser may feel shock and denial over abuse and swear it will never happen again. Over time the cycle will start anew.
