. Explain why a debriefing is important. Explain what should be contained in a debriefing and who should receive one?

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: The debriefing is given after the study is complete with several purposes in mind. First, the debriefing explains the purpose of the project, which can be crucial if deception was involved. Participants must leave fully informed for many reasons. The right to give consent does not start and stop with the informed consent. If participants get to the end and realize they do not want this information shared, they can withdraw consent. The debriefing gives them that chance. Also, in order to have participants feeling okay and at least as good as they felt coming into the study, sometimes they need to be told the manipulation that made you feel a bit stressed was meant to make you feel a bit stressed. It is not you. Second, the debriefing provides contact information for the researcher and someone other than the researcher in case the participant wants to complain about the research. This is important given that participants might have questions or concerns that they do not feel comfortable stating out loud, or if the study was conducted online, there was no one there to tell at the time of the study. Third, the debriefing should list support services and maybe follow-up resources on the topic. If participants re upset by the study or maybe something they learned about themselves while participating in the study, they need access to help. If informed consent was needed for a study, then a debriefing is necessary as well. It is not only for people who have been deceived or for studies where there is obvious risk. Sometimes, the risk is not immediately obvious or the researcher does not see it. Thus, pretty much every human participant in a study should receive a debriefing.
