Abilify and Risperdal (antipsychotics) are approved for use in children with ASD to reduce their challenging behaviors and make it more likely that they can benefit from treatment. Sometimes sleep aids are also prescribed. But medications are not effective at reducing any of the core symptoms of ASD.
