• Project Restore facilitates conferencing in cases involving sexual assault both for cases referred by the court and for self-referral cases. It places emphasis on extensive preconference preparation for all parties and assessment of any risks that might occur during the conferencing.
• Restorative processes give society an opportunity to address harm done, especially from sexual violence. Restorative practices are about making amends and providing restitution rather than punishment.
• Restorative processes are especially relevant to work with women, and indeed to all marginalized persons and groups where wrongs have been committed that need to be rectified. Restorative processes require a new way of thinking about crime and other forms of wrongdoing, a way of thinking that is victim-(not offender)-centered, and a way of thinking that is concerned with getting at the truth when crime is committed.
