Why are some pediatricians adopting a "wait-and-see" approach to treating otitis media?
What will be an ideal response?
Because of overuse of antibiotics, the bacteria that causes otitis media are becoming
resistant to them. Doctors are hesitant to continue to prescribe antibiotics and increase the likelihood
of stronger strains of infections. Also, research has found that most cases of otitis media clear up on
their own within 7 days without antibiotics. If the child develops a high fever orthe infection persists
then the doctor will often prescribe antibiotics.
