Discuss why Microsoft considers an NLB cluster to be a better solution to load balancing than DNS round robin.
What will be an ideal response?
Microsoft considers an NLB cluster to be a better solution to load balancing than DNS round robin because an NLB cluster is highly reliable and it is relatively easy to add servers with NLB Manager to scale an application environment. Another reason why an NLB cluster is preferred over DNS round robin is that the server manager can more effectively control how the load is distributed in the NLB cluster. For example, when using DNS round robin, several users who connect one after another may use a server for under a minute while others are connected for over an hour. Under these circumstances, the load can still become disproportionate after a few minutes because the short-time users have logged off. An NLB cluster provides a control mechanism to account for these situations to maintain more even distribution of the load on the basis of user activities.
Still another advantage of an NLB cluster is that it is more responsive to handling a down server. When an NLB cluster server goes down, the cluster compensates immediately. In DNS round robin, a server that is down is not recognized until DNS removes its A or AAAA resource record-resulting in client requests going to a nonexistent network host.
