What is nutrient density and why is it an important concept to understand?
What will be an ideal response?
Nutrient density refers to the quantity of nutrients packed into the calories consumed. Highly processed foods may contain empty calories, a term that indicates the calories consumed have very little nutritional value. If we load up on empty calories, we have little room left for nutritional calories, and can potentially become nutritionally deficient over time even though we are consuming adequate calories.
