What is signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and reverberation? What modifications can be done to classrooms to eliminate SNR and reverberation?
What will be an ideal response?
Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is the relationship between the speech signal and the amount of noise within the environment.SNR may vary according to the environmental conditions within and outside of the classroom. The ideal ratio is +15 dB which means the speech signal is 15 dB louder than the noise within the environment. Reverberation is an echo of sound. A portion of the speech signal travels directly to the listener while another portion bounces off of the walls and reaches the listener at a later time. Modifications to the classrooms can include sound-absorbing ceiling tiles, suspended ceilings, sound absorbing wall panels, positioning desks, the teacher positioning himself/herself, and classroom amplification systems can be used.
