Write a response about the difference between summative and formative assessment.
What would be an ideal response?
A formative assessment is during the instructional process and is a form of testing for practice. A formative assessment is helpful for the student because then they can see their own progress while they are learning new content. They are also beneficial for teachers because they can see during the instructional progress, how that student is doing with the new information. The teacher can then choose to adjust their teaching before the summative assessment. A summative assessment is used at the end of a lesson or unit to gauge a student’s understanding and can be given periodically, though they are used in the grading process. Summative assessments reflect the essential and enduring knowledge.
