In defining multicultural counseling, why should the role of the counselor, the intervention, and evaluation of outcomes be included?

What will be an ideal response?

It is important to underscore the role of the counselor in the definition of multicultural counseling because the counselor needs to recognize the part she or he must play in all the social experiences of clients. Counselors, by recognizing their roles, are able to realize the advocacy role they must play in promoting social justice for diverse clients. Social injustice must be addressed in order to promote healing. Counseling interventions must be part of the definition of multicultural counseling to avoid cultural-bound interventions. Such interventions must be based on clients’ social contexts, individual contexts, and cultural experiences. Multicultural counseling outcomes should include changes in the contexts that may be implicated in symptom formation as well as relieving individual symptoms. To this end, multicultural counseling should include the role of the counselor, the intervention strategies, and the outcomes that are sensitive to the clients’ contexts and cultural experiences.
