Answers will vary but should discuss the impact of forced separation on the mother and child, the family-oriented nature of female inmates as compared to males, the significant of children in the lives of female inmates, and the importance of contact with children to inmate mothers. Answers may also discuss some prison programs that allow young inmates to remain with their mothers, such as Washington State's nursery program at Gig Harbor and the Community Prisoner Mother Program in California. Answers should also discuss the student's views on this issue.
