What is triangulation?

What will be an ideal response?

In Bowenian therapy, a triangle is a three-person relationship system; it is the universal unit of analysis in working with families. When two people in a family have problems with each other, one or both will “triangle in” a third family member. People respond to anxiety between each other by shifting the focus or bringing in a third person. In a family triangle, two members are on the inside, and one is on the outside. Triangulation is believed to be the building block of larger emotional systems because a triangle is the smallest stable relationship system. A two-person system is considered to be unstable because it will permit little tension before involving a third person. A triangle can tolerate more tension than a two-person system without involving another person because the tension can be shifted around the three people.
