Explain how bioremediation works, using an oil spill as an example
What will be an ideal response?
Bioremediation is the cleaning up of a toxic substance by employing bacteria to metabolize the waste into something harmless. This is usually done by seeding, for example, an oil spill, with fertilizer (and sometimes the bacteria, although that may not be necessary) and allowing the bacteria to use the oil as an energy source.
