Explain basic control of an infectious disease and provide examples.
What will be an ideal response?
The first step in dealing with an infectious disease is basic control of the disease, which consists of reduction of the disease incidence, prevalence, morbidity, and mortality to a locally acceptable level. Ongoing intervention efforts are required. Examples include the use of nets and insecticides to control malaria and the screening of high-risk persons and treatment of latent disease in the case of tuberculosis.
