Briefly describe how to start migrating applications during IPv6 deployment.
What will be an ideal response?
Once your lab is up and running, with an IPv6-enabled network and servers, your application people can start bringing in their software to test. Although the actual coding is beyond the scope of this book, there are a few things that need to be done during this activity:
Make sure the application people track any changes they make to the infrastructure. This includes driver updates, operating system updates, and so on.
Track any changes to requirements-for example, DNS records. An application may take advantage of IPv6 features, like multicasting or anycasting, or security features. If it does, your designs will have to meet those requirements, so make sure you enable them in the network before they update their applications in production. Sometimes, applications also use IP addresses as part of their registration or copy-protection schemes. These usually require static addresses, so you may need to modify your addressing plans to accommodate this.
