1. Imagine you were officially labeled deviant in junior high school. How do you think this would have affected your life and your opportunities? Would you parents, teachers, and peers have treated you differently? Where do you think you would be now if you had been labeled delinquent?

What will be an ideal response?

Labels can influence how people perceive me. If someone were to label me a deviant in high school, I would be faced with other students ostracizing and marginalizing me to a group of other deviants, in which we were subject to the same condescending repressive labels. It would impact my involvement in sports and school activities. Teachers would more than likely give opportunities for scholarships and what not to others who were not labeled deviant because they are considered more successful. If a student does not have the willpower and drive to overcome such challenging obstacles, a downward spiral of becoming involved in more deviancy and being stripped of opportunities would follow.
