Explain what organizational culture means and why it is important to policing.

What will be an ideal response?

Organizational culture is the accepted practices, rules, and rules of conduct that are situationally applied. It is a network of shared norms, values, attitudes, and expectations of each other. Organizational culture is generally learned through experience, and understanding these expectations is critical as a violation of these norms may result in the officer being informally sanctioned. While this informal sanctioning may take the form of the officer being ridiculed, it may also take on more serious, and potentially dangerous forms, such not receiving timely backup when requested.
