Devise an intervention (the previous illustration could be used for this purpose) that includes either behavioral training of some type or systematic desensitization. Pay careful attention to the process of developing evaluation criteria for the intervention.

What will be an ideal response?

One example of this intervention may involve a hypothetical student who is fearful of participating in classroom exercises. The student feels intimidated by the setting, the instructor, and the presence of peers who may be judgmental. The following goals could be outlined with the student, listed from the least to most difficult.
• Relaxation skill development, for use when in the classroom
• Getting to class early, to find a comfortable seat and location, and have time to become oriented to the setting
• Sitting in the front half of the room
• Raising a hand to ask or respond to questions (this number may begin at “one time” and move upwards)
• Speaking to classmates about topic material (same as above)
