IgA is the "secretory" immunoglobulin that is present in body secretions such as tears, saliva, sweat, vaginal fluid, and mucus. Its purpose is to attach to microorganisms in areas where access to the body is easier and prevent penetration. People with primary IgA deficiency do mount an-tibody defenses with all other classes of antibody and do not experience a shorter life span be-cause of the deficiency. They do have a much higher incidence of sinopulmonary, urinary tract, and skin infections.
