Compare and contrast poststructuralism and postmodernism.

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: Poststructuralism arose in reaction to structuralism and postmodernism arose in response to modernism. In poststructuralism there is a rejection of the idea of universal truths or structures. In their place, there is an emphasis on differences; deconstructing events into history, assumptions and arbitrariness; an interpretation of events; and the impact of ideas on behavior. Postmodernism rejected the modernists’ emphasis on present, center, hierarchy, universalism, and objectivity to name a few. Postmodernism emphasizes individuality, difference, fragmentation, constant change, and the lack of foundations for thought and interpretation. These two ways of thinking, poststructuralism and postmodernism, influence the thinking of qualitative researchers
