Describe what appear to be some common themes that exist with the transition to COPPS around the world

What will be an ideal response?

Several common themes or practices are identifiable: removing police officer from their patrol cars and putting them in closer contact with the public (and together engaging in the use of problem-solving methods), decentralizing the organization to areas and neighborhoods, developing a sense of community, and sharing decision making with the public. Also seen is that some venues initiated a pilot project before implementing the concept department-wide; another common denominator seemed to be the need for sound evaluations of COPPS to determine what works. This chapter has also shown that the COPPS approach is not that different in foreign venues from the manner in which it operates in the U.S. Nations composing our global village are indeed learning from, and sharing with, one another.
