Flash drives | Portable, small, nonvolatile storage devices, such as thumb drives and Secure Digital (SD) cards. |
Optical discs | CDs and DVDs use lasers to read and write information. These discs are fairly inexpensive and can be used on a wide array of devices. Performance is slower than hard disks, but CDs and DVDs are more portable. |
Hard disks | Typically the largest storage devices in a computer; capable of storing up to a terabyte of data. |
Tape drives | Drives that record data on magnetic tape, usually used to archive system data. Tapes are often used to store entire system backups. |
