Describe the function, focus, and usefulness of a hospital-based cancer registry
A hospital-based cancer registry collects data for individual hospitals or networks of hospitals on new cancer cases diagnosed and/or treated in that hospital or group of hospitals. The focus is on administration and clinical care. The registries are useful in evaluating whether or not patients are receiving "standard of care" treatment based on type of cancer and for monitoring cancer outcomes such as survival or recurrence of disease. The data in the cancer registry can be used for health care provider education, facility utilization studies, and research.?
