Explain the bail system in the United States
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: It is designed to ensure that defendants show up in court as scheduled. The judge sets the amount of bail. It discriminates against those that cannot afford the amount set. This causes defendants to lose jobs and weakens their ties with family members and friends. Defendants may be released on their own recognizance. Others may have to employ the services of a bonding agent.
