What are some risk factors for prostate cancer?
What will be an ideal response?
There have been several risk factors identified for prostate cancer. Age greater than 65 years old is one of the strongest associations since cancer of the prostate is rare among men younger than 45 years of age. Race is another well documented risk factor as prostate cancer occurs significantly more frequently among black men than among white men and men of Hispanic origin. Death rates have decreased more rapidly for black men than for white men since the early 1990's, but black men still have a twice the risk of death from prostate cancer. Family history of prostate cancer in a father, brother, or son raises a man's risk for developing the same. Other factors that have not been proven but are under investigation include consumption of red meat, obesity, and smoking.
