a. Concussion is defined as a blow that causes temporary neurologic impairment with no immediate evidence to serious damage.
Can result in chronic traumatic encephalopathy
Contusion results in bruising and sometimes hemorrhage of the superficial cerebral tissue.
b. Concussion may have brief lapse in consciousness, temporary disorientation, headache, blurred vision, dizziness, and emotionally irritable.
Contusion can exhibit hypotension; shallow respirations; rapid but weak pulse; loss of consciousness; and pale, clammy skin.
Contusion can cause contrecoup injury, bruising the brain
With concussion increased, ICP includes personality changes, increased sleepiness, vomiting, speech, gait disturbances, and behavioral changes.
c. Both should be observed for vital signs, neurologic changes, LOC, respiratory distress, and ICP changes.
