What makes tempered glass (TG) stronger than annealed glass (AG)?
What will be an ideal response?
TG is made by taking an AG sheet precut to size and heating it in a furnace to 1,300°F. The heated glass is suddenly
quenched by blowing a jet of cold air. This creates permanent compressive stress in the exterior of glass and tensile
stress in glass interior. The compressive stress created in glass exterior cancels the tensile stress created by bending,
making TG stronger in bending than AG.
