Discuss why the use of large-scale hydropower plants may fall slowly over the next several decades.

What will be an ideal response?

The reservoirs will fill with silt and become useless faster than new systems are built. Also, there is concern about the amount of methane being released from the decomposition of submerged vegetation in the reservoirs. In addition, as mountain glaciers melt, the source of water for the streams where many of the hydropower plants are located will be depleted.
