Explain the three techniques that can help a speaker deliver an effective how-to demonstration. Provide an example for each technique.
What will be an ideal response?
A speaker should include all steps, even the ones that the speaker thinks are
obvious. If you have baked cookies 100 times, maybe you think preheating the oven is a
given. On the other hand, someone who has never baked before might not be aware of
this important step. A speaker should provide a clear view. For instance, a presentation
on how to dissect a frog may not be visible to the back of the classroom. Therefore, the
speaker should consider using slides and a projector to illustrate the steps. Finally, the
speaker should control the pace of the presentation. This means not rushing through
complicated steps, so the audience has a clear understanding of the process.
