What will be an ideal response?
Once sperm become detached from the nurse cells they are transported by fluid currents along the straight tubule through the rete testis and into the epididymis. The head, body, and tail of the epididymis contain tubules almost 7 meters long and serve as the site of sperm maturation. Processes that occur in the epididymis include monitoring and adjustment of the composition of the tubular fluid, recycling of damaged spermatozoa, and storage of mature sperm, and provide time for the sperm to complete its functional maturation.
