Why is it not possible for HIV medications to eliminate HIV in a confirmed HIV-positive patient?

What will be an ideal response?

Once a person has been confirmed as HIV-positive, the virus has already infected the cells. Although medications can limit the further infection of new host cells, it cannot do anything about the cells that are already infected. Most drugs are aimed at preventing replication of HIV.
