The War on Drugs has impacted both males and females. However, it had a more significant effect for women, especially women of color. It has increased the number of racial disparities in sentencing. In addition, the War on Drugs has also shifted punishments to incarcerating from community supervision; thus, the incarceration of women for nonviolent drug-related offenses has significantly increased.
