Should the use of performance-enhancing drugs be legalized?

What will be an ideal response?

Some athletes and others argue that it costs too much to test athletes. Others say that there is nothing unethical in using performance-enhancing drugs, especially if that is what the fans want to see: human performance at the highest level. This argument seems to mirror the arguments by proponents who wish to legalize drugs such as marijuana; that is, it costs too much to enforce and is ineffective. Virtually all athletes would have to take performance-enhancing drugs if they wished to compete against other athletes at the highest level. An interesting discussion might involve genetic engineering rather than performance- enhancing drugs.
