Briefly explain what the VeriChip is and why the VeriChip technology is controversial
What will be an ideal response?
This intelligent chip was about the size of a grain of rice. The intent was for the VeriChip to be implanted directly into a body, perhaps a pet's, a child's, or maybe even your own. The VeriChip could be used to store security, health, financial, or other types of information about the host into which it is implanted. It could also be used for tracking. The potential problem with such technologies that allow you to be tracked and identified wherever you are, is the very fact that these technologies can track and identify you wherever you are. This is something of a paradox and for many a frightening reality. Users of these technologies that are now on our doorstep will want assurances that these technologies will not, or cannot, be used in a manner for which they were not intended. The problem with technology, however, is that like a Pandora's Box once it is opened it can sometimes be difficult to close or control.
