Describe the stages of coming apart in the Model of Interaction Stages.
What will be an ideal response?
The stages of coming apart are differentiating, circumscribing, stagnating, avoiding, and termination. In differentiating, communication asserts separateness of relationship partners. Partners will stop “working together” and say things like, “I don’t want to go away with you this weekend.” Circumscribing is restricting communication between partners. They talk less and reveal less information to each other. Stagnating is when the relationship is still and lifeless, and both partners may give up hope. Avoiding is when partners steer clear of each other and rearrange their schedules so they don’t have to see each other. Termination is the final stage, in which the couple publicly ends their relationship.
