In Hershey and Chase’s experiment, why would it not have been suitable to use radioactive nitrogen to label DNA?

What will be an ideal response?

ANSWER: Hershey and Chase wanted to determine if the genetic material was DNA or protein. Both
DNA and protein contain nitrogen. Therefore, if they had used radioactive nitrogen, it would
have labeled both the DNA and protein. Thus, it would be impossible to distinguish if DNA
or protein had been transferred from the phage to the bacterial cell.
