Discuss the concepts of urbanization and suburbanization. Select two types of specific urban or suburban types described in the text and explain them with examples. Which type of area-urban or suburban-is growing, and by what measure?

What will be an ideal response?

Correct answer varies but should include urbanization, the process by which an increasing percentage of a society's population comes to be located in relatively densely populated urban areas. The process of suburbanization occurs when large numbers of people move out of the city and into nearby, less densely populated environs. Could discuss edge cities, exurbs, megalopolis, metropolis, megacity, global city, and world city. Urban areas are growing, and two thirds of people are expected to live in urban areas by 2050. Suburbanization peaked in the late twentieth century and is now on the decline, and we are in a post suburban era in terms of population movement, but in terms of land, suburbs do continue to expand.
