Briefly describe what a fish bowl discussion looks like. Then give an example of when you might use one. Why?

What will be an ideal response?

In a fish bowl discussion, two circles of chairs are formed, one smaller inside a larger. Then the class is split into two smaller groups. Each group takes a turn discussing some topic in the smaller circle while the group in the larger circle observes and takes notes on the discussion. During a parenting class, I might use a fish bowl discussion to allow parents to observe a discussion amongst their children and then allow the children to observe the discussion about their children and parenting. This could be an effective way of helping both parents and their children understand the behaviors of the other and realize that they do all really care about each other. It could help encourage a willingness for parents and children to cooperate more.
