Originality: An independent creation with a small amount of creativity; doesn't have to be unique.
Fixation: Established in a tangible medium; this is the defining aspect of a work being copyrightable. The work exists, and it can be experienced, from a full-length movie to a digital work stored for a nanosecond in computer RAM.
Expression: A person's unique output or take on an idea. An idea is not protected (taking a photo on the beach at sunset), but the expression of that idea is (clicking a camera at a particular moment).
