Discuss dyslexia in terms of possible problems related to cerebral lateralization

What will be an ideal response?

Dyslexia involves difficulties in reading and writing letters and words, and thus would begin to become apparent during the latter part of the preschool period. Cerebral lateralization is normally well under way at this point, and preschool children normally display a left- or right-hand preference. Research indicates that dyslexic children tend to show incomplete lateralization of spatial abilities into the right hemisphere, which means, indirectly, that the combination of left-hemisphere auditory functioning and spatial information processing might produce interference. Dyslexic children, for example, have difficulty matching language sounds (auditory function) with written words (spatial function).
