Compare and contrast the ways an undercover operation can benefit and hinder a criminal investigation
What will be an ideal response?
• Undercover work and surveillance are viable options for police investigators because they provide considerable information that is not otherwise available through traditional investigative methods. On the other hand, undercover work forces the officer to assume a different identity and, sometimes, a lifestyle that thrusts him or her into the criminal subculture, where he or she can be tempted to do things that would otherwise be immoral or even illegal (e.g., using illegal drugs). Undercover operations may also result in entrapment or additional criminal activity.
