What is the main idea behind gender schema theory?

What will be an ideal response?

A schema is a cognitive structure, a network of associations that guides an individual's perceptions. Gender schema theory states that gender typing emerges as children and adolescents gradually develop gender schemas of what is gender-appropriate and gender inappropriate in their culture. A gender schema organizes the world in terms of male or female. Children and adolescents are internally motivated to perceive the world and to act in accordance with their developing schemas.
