Tell whether the sampling strategy will result in a random sample from the population under consideration. If it is not random, explain why it is not.The card game bridge is played by four playes. Each person plays with a person who sits opposite of them. In duplicate bridge there are many tables of four players at which hands are being played simultaneously. Each east-west pair moves around the different tables so that they play a few hands against each north-south pair. One evening there are 40 players. The director would like to select a random sample of 10 players from those playing that evening. .He interrupts play at 8 pm and announces that all those currently seated in the east position have been chosen to win free entry to an upcoming tournament
What will be an ideal response?
This is not a random sample. The sample will not include any pairs of bridge partners. Also the sample will probably not include any disabled players who are more likely to sit in a north-south position so that they do not have to move around.
