to arrive, what to bring and wear, and where the family will wait. Discuss what the postanesthesia
care unit (PACU) will be like and the activities that will occur after surgery. Describe any lines, such
as Foley catheters, that may be present and how his pain will be managed. Review measures that
will be used to prevent respiratory complications and deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and describe the
usual progression of activity and diet.
