Islamists have taken their jihad to Russia, but there is little to suggest that they export it anywhere else in stark contrast to the global jihad being waged by supports of al Qaeda

Some of the groups in the "Stans" may be aligned to al Qaeda, and with Russia firmly keeping the lid on Chechnya, consider the possibilities for a wider movement of jihad beyond the Russian Federation's borders.

There has been little indication that the current breed of Islamic extremists in the region has any desire to provide support to the wider ideals of al Qaeda's global jihad. Still, there are certainly opportunities for training of jihadists in regions of Georgia, which may lead to a spread of extremism away from the Russian Federation.
