Explain the changes in vegetation observed with increasing elevation. BONUS: Compare this to changes in vegetation

with latitude. What will be an ideal response?

If one were to start at low elevation in the temperate deciduous forest biome and climb to
higher elevations one would pass from deciduous trees to coniferous trees to krummholz
(twisted shrublike trees), and finally to alpine tundra consisting of grasses and sedges. A
similar variation in vegetation would be seen moving northward from the equator (i.e., from
temperate forest to boreal forest, to arctic tundra).
