Sleep cycles are typically around 90-minute long. A person starts out in Stage 1 sleep and then progresses to Stage 2 then Stage 3 then Stage 4. After this, the person reverses the Stages from 4 to 3 to 2. At this point, the person will normally enter REM sleep. This completes one full cycle.
