Explain how teachers can build students interests in reading follow the research of Hidi and Renninger.
What will be an ideal response?
The development of interest proceeds in stages. A teacher can trigger situational interest by reading an exciting book to the class or sharing a novel video. A teacher can maintain that interest by continuing with read books of a similar topic or genre and by building students ability to read that genre. As knowledge builds and the teacher provides more support the emerging interests becomes individual. Eventually with more support, more knowledge and more opportunity the interest is well-developed and individual.
