Briefly describe the use of an encoder used for feedback of speed and position of a rotor in a Servo motor.
What will be an ideal response?
An incremental encoder is used for basic information. The encode signal tells the controller whether the rotor is accelerating, at set speed, or decelerating. By counting the number of pulses, the controller can determine how many revolutions the rotor has made since the start command was issued. This system closes the loop between the desired command sent to the motor and the actual rotor response.
