Utilitarianism is the concept of doing what is perceived to be best for the greatest number of people. Utilitarian ethics states that a decision is ethical if it provides a greater amount of benefit than other possible alternative decisions for the greatest number of people. Duty is the belief or perception of what a person or organization should do or is obligated to do. Respect is concerned with establishing minimal societal and individual standards governing human interaction, determining how we treat others and how we would like others to treat us in turn. Rights seek to create the minimal conditions governing decency in human life and grant people certain basic privileges associated with being human and therefore possessing value that rights seek to establish and protect.
